In 2020, number of births for India was 24,067.83 but uptake of labour analgeisa was lagging!! Natural Labor is highly complex, painful and traumatic for many women. However, very few centers & practitioners in India provide neuraxial analgesia during labor and delivery. Perhaps, lack of knowledge, nuances of labor analgesia, rapidly advancing techniques and the dynamics of labor preclude the widespread use of labor analgesia. Also the offsite locations and at times remote locations makes the task of lone anesthesiologist very challenging!!.... after all.... labor epidurals are not merely an act of placing catheters!!

We need to apprise ourselves with the benchmarks for mandatory standards, dosing strategies, trouble-shooting & dealing with complications and developing a safety net in our set up.
